Introducing Room 217’s Artists’ Circle
The Artists’ Circle is a platform for Canadian industry musicians to partner with the Room 217 Foundation by sharing their own story of how music has or is making a difference to their health and well-being. The program showcases the stories of Canadian musicians where music has been a means of self or other care in their personal lives. The Artists’ Circle will bridge the worlds of music as entertainment and music as care. People will be encouraged to draw on music as a source of strength and hope in their journey through the inspirational stories of musical artists.
The inaugural group of musicians in the Artists’ Circle are: Liona Boyd, Dan Hill and Amy Sky.
We are delighted that Liona Boyd, “The First Lady of the Guitar”, will be representing the Artists’ Circle at MCC Toronto 2013 as we launch the program. She will share her own personal journey with music and how she has coped with the diagnosis of musician’s focal dystonia.
Liona Boyd, five time Juno award winner, has introduced millions around the world to the art of classical guitar through her concerts, television specials, and twenty-two recordings, many of which have gone Gold and Platinum. Liona has just released a musical love letter to the country she holds so dear; her new album “The Return…to Canada with Love”, was released September 17, 2013. The CD is autobiographical in nature, and it marks a departure from her classical background. Liona wrote the songs, composed the music and for the first time ever - sings! After having left the stage for a number of years, due to a life-altering diagnosis of musician's focal dystonia, Liona triumphantly returns with a clearly defined new style that is ‘wowing’ audiences. Featuring fifteen original songs and instrumentals, the album features well-known Canadian and international artists including; Olivia Newton-John, Dan Hill and Daniel Lavoie. The final cut on the CD, "Canada My Canada," puts the spotlight on lauded Canadian artists Serena Ryder, Jann Arden, John McDermott, Mark Masri and Randy Bachman in a rousing patriotic song for Canada. It also includes special guest appearances by astronaut Chris Hadfield, Hockey Night In Canada’s Ron Maclean and members of Team Canada from the 1972 Summit Series. The “Canada My Canada” track is really an anthem to the nation, that Liona hopes will be embraced by Canadians of all ages and resonate for generations as Canada's new patriotic song.
